SINTEF Energy Research

SINTEF Energy Research is an applied research institute developing innovative energy solutions. Specialising in cutting-edge research and infrastructure in Norway and internationally, the institute helps clients enhance value and competitiveness. As part of the SINTEF Group — one of Europe's largest independent research institutes — SINTEF Energy Research operates as a non-profit foundation, reinvesting financial surplus into scientific equipment and expertise.

Role within project: SINTEF leads experimental work on two-phase immersion cooling, evaluating natural working fluids as alternatives to synthetic refrigerants for cooling data-center servers. After an initial screening, promising fluids are tested in dedicated laboratory facilities, using defined performance indicators to assess their performance and suitability for larger-scale applications. In parallel, SINTEF analyses how data centres across Europe can recover and reuse excess heat, identifying realistic large-scale use cases and developing scenarios that show where and how the solutions can be applied.
